This skull of Giraffa jumae belonged to a close relative of the modern giraffe which was probably of a similar size and proportions and with long neck and limbs. The skull almost completlety lacks the middle ossiicone that is seen on modern giraffes . Three species of Giraffa are known from the Turkana Basin, of which Giraffa jumae is the largest, Giraffa stillei is the intermediate and Giraffa pygmaea is the smallest. This skull that was discovered in the fossililferous sediments of Olduvai Bed II rather than in the Turkana Basin.
