This is a partial left maxilla (upper jaw) of Kenyanthropus platyops that was found by B. Onyango in 1998 from Lomekwi to the west of Lake Turkana in northern Kenya. This specimen is the paratype of this species. It was found at a site known as LO 5 and is dated to about 3.5 million years. This is the same general area from which the worlds oldest stone tools were discovered (see tools section of this website).

The teeth in this maxilla are the upper left 3rd and 4th premolars. The type specimen of Kenyanthropus platyops is KNMWT 40000.
