This is a lower mandible of Aepyceros melampus, found in the fossil deposits of Area 10, East Turkana.  It is a medium sized browsing antelope that occur in woodlands often close to water. This species is still extant today.

The earliest records of Aepyceros come from Lothagam, in the Turkana Basin, and date to about 7 Ma. At least three fossil species are known from the Turkana Basin: Aepyceros premelampus, Aepyceros shungurae and Aepyceros melampus.
