Uraha 501

This lower jaw of Homo rudolfensis represents the southernmost distribution of this species. This was found by Tyspn Mskiku in 1991 during an expedition led by Friedemann Schrenk and Tim bromage. The discovery was made from deposits near the village of Uraha, near Karonga in Malawi.  It has been dated to between 2.5 and 2.3 million years, through faunal correlation with east African sites. The fossil sites of Malawi represent a hominin corridor between the east african and south african localities.
