The Bovini are the largest and heaviest of the Bovidae. This impressive skull and horn cores was recovered from the East side of Lake Turkana near Ileret. This is the Holotype of Pelerovis turkanensis. Pelorovis appeared in Africa in the late Pliocene at about 2.4 myr. Two species of Pelorovis are recognised in the Koobi Fora Formation, the larger Pelerovis oldowayensis and the smaller Pelerovis turkanensis.
Pelerovis turkanensis coexisted with Pelerovis oldowayensis n the Koobi Fora Formation where is is known from the KBS and Okote Members. The horn cores of Pelerovis turkanensis are half the size of Pelerovis olduwayensis and have a pronounced upward inclination at their extremity.
