This is a beautifully preserved cranium with complete left and right horn cores. It was found in Area 131 on the east side of Lake Turkana from a site called Area 131. Kobus sigmoidalis shares many features with the extant waterbuck Kobus ellipsiprymnus found in east Africa today, and is of a similar size and presumably occupied a similar habitat. It was prevalent in the Upper Burgi Member of the Koobi Fora Formation, dated at about 2 million years. It is the most common of the Reduncini living at that time.

This fossil of  Kobus sigmoidalis was found by fossil hunter Ezekiel Linga, working with the Koobi Fora Research Project during the 2008 expedition. It was carefully and carried back in a plaster jacket for preparation in the laboratory.
