Notochoerus are the decendents of Nyanzachoerus. They are a sexually dimorphic species (Larger males and smaller females). They show an increase in their tooth length and tooth height with time. Isotopic studies of tooth enamel suggest that these pigs were mixed feeders eating both leaves and grass. The specimens from the site called Kanapoi, south west of Turkana, suggest that here this species also had a grass rich diet. Worn tooth cusps exhibit a distinct star shaped dentine lake.
